electrochemical synthesis of biomass-derived organic compounds

1. designing electrocatalysts and tuning reaction environments 

   - selective oxidation and hydrogenation of various functional groups

   - paired electrolysis of biomass and CO2 for co-productions

2. in-situ/operando analyses to understand fundamentals of electrocatalysis

   - ATR-FTIR: interfacial changes of reactants and electrolytes

   - synchrotron XAS: metal ion and structural changes of catalysts

3. designing electrolyzers for scalable production

   - building large-area, multi-stacked flow-cells 

   - modifying reactor, flow-field, electrode, and membrane
